MHz Worldview

MHz WORLDVIEW is a non-commercial television channel designed to bring a broader perspective of the world to American audiences. It is a 24/7 program stream attracting globally aware viewers with a wide range of international programming blocks: World News, Foreign Affairs, International Mysteries, World Music, Sports, and Foreign Films. All are either in English or are subtitled in English. WYCC is proud to bring you MHz Worldview as part of its digital programming.

Where Do I Watch MHz Worldview?

The channel will be available to viewers able to access Digital Channel 21 (21DT), which is available both "over-the-air" and through certain digital cable and satellite services. If you watch "over the air" with an antenna, meaning you do not have access to various cable and satellite systems, you will need a digital tuner and a television set capable of receiving digital transmission.

Do I need HDTV to watch Worldview?

No. You can watch all of MHz Worldview on your standard definition television set. All you need is to be able to receive digital broadcast signals.

Irrespective of Worldview, upgrading to digital reception is a good idea. After February 17 2009, you will not be able to view television with an antenna without a digital television set or converter. Find out more about Digital Broadcast, and the impending February 17 2009 deadline, at dtv.gov. Depending on equipment purchased, you might be eligible for a $40 discount on a digital converter.

I have digital cable. Why can't I view Worldview?

Unlike WYCC, MHz Worldview is not a must-carry channel for cable and satellite providers. It is therefore up to them to feature the channel in their lineup. Please call your cable or satellite provider and request that they feature Worldview on their program lineup.

The World News block features newscasts from Taiwan, India, Japan, France, Germany, Bolivia, Africa and Russia. The World Music block features Strictly Global, with videos from Chile, Japan, Thailand, Mali, Russia, England, Australia, the Philippines, Venezuela, and Germany, to name a few. The Emmy Award-winning MHz Presents features artists from all genres of music with guests such as Floetry, The Chieftains, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Afro Celts, Suzanne Vega, and more. The Sports block was recently expanded with the addition of the Australian Football League (AFL) “Match of the Week”. The International Mystery block features iconic detectives from all over the world; the super sleuths that become "can't miss it" viewing opportunities.

In a nod to the largest group of recent immigrants, Spanish-speaking groups from Latin and South America, MHz WORLDVIEW presents a Spanish-Language block of daily news and informational programming. The four-hour block features two MHz original productions, Hablemos de Salud and Jorge Gestoso. Hablemos features Dr. Elmer Huerta, known throughout the U.S. Latino communities through his syndicated radio program. The program presents preventive medical advice through taped segments and live phone calls. Jorge Gestoso (previous anchor of CNN Noticias) interviews top political and cultural personalities. Additional Spanish-language magazine programming from around the world round out the Spanish block. [MHz Worldview schedule]

Dialogue is a co-production between MHz NETWORKS and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a non-partisan think tank funded by Congress. Dialogue tries to reach below the surface to the cultural underpinnings from which political thought flows. The block also includes weekly political affairs programs from Germany, Taiwan, and India.

The latest addition to MHz WORLDVIEW is Russian World TV that includes news and public affairs, films, documentaries and a children’s programming block.

Interstitial programming on MHz WORLDVIEW comes from washingtonpost.com, one of the premier news websites. Other short-form content used as interstitial programming includes MHz's own WORLDVIEW stories - one to three-minute short stories of people retelling events that encouraged and challenged them to look at the world differently.

MHz WORLDVIEW service works very well as a broad-based educational tool – particularly the foreign-language opportunities.
